Fond Memories

Do you remember when everything you liked was called "real cool"?
Then you probably recall your days at Sam Houston High School.

Remember when a dollar bought over five gallons of the best gas,
When you worried, usually after the test, whether you would pass?

Remember malts, burgers and onion rings never making you sick,
And all the cars had running boards, and shifted with a stick?

Remember those Friday night dates which were always very grand?
Guys could shift, steer and signal turns, and only use one hand!

Remember when dancing took two peopler, holding each other tight,
And we didn't have a television, but we still had fun at night?

Remember football banquets, proms and the gym "sock-hop" dances,
Worrying if you should have a date, or just go and take a chance?

Remember girls in ponytails, crinolines and all the poddle skirts
And guys in flat tops or duck tails, jeans and tucked in shirts?

Remember the slumber parties, which the guys would always crash,
And the "chocolate chip" cookies, which really made some dash?

Remember pep rally, ball practice, marching in a straight line,
Blowing your horn, beating your drum, and sounding oh so fine?

Remember all those poor teachers just wearing nerves to shreds,
Trying to drive just a little knowledge into all of our heads?

And then we left Sam Houston, each to go on our separate ways,
Hopefully well prepared with knowledge to last us all our days,

Tonight we look back with fondness; let's get down on our knees
With grateful prayers that once, long ago, we all were CHEROKEES.
